We are inviting conservation professionals, researchers, collection managers, and biodiversity practitioners to participate in the Global Wildlife Biobanking Gap Analysis: Practices, Capacity, Risks and Opportunities, a global survey led by Dr Natalie Calatayud (Museums Victoria Research Institute) and Dr Isa-Rita Russo (Cardiff University), with a multi-institutional author team.

The survey aims to generate an independent, evidence-based picture of current wildlife biobanking practice, infrastructure capacity, funding, barriers, and policy alignment across taxa, regions, and institution types. It was developed directly from gaps identified during the development of the IUCN SSC Biobanking Guidelines, and has received support from the Global Genome Biodiversity Network, ISBER, the Australian Biobank Network for Animals, the Natural Sciences Collections Association, the Society for Reproduction and Fertility, and the Society for Conservation Biology. We welcome input from anyone working in or adjacent to wildlife conservation, biological collections, or biodiversity management, whether or not you currently hold biobanked material.

The survey takes 20–35 minutes, responses are anonymous, and it remains open until 31 October 2026. Please also share with colleagues who may be interested.
