SCB North America is thrilled to launch our new Friends Circle - a network of dedicated supporters helping us deliver innovative policy, education, and conservation programs. Initiated by long-time SCB leaders, the Circle ensures today's and tomorrow's conservation leaders have a strong Society they can rely on as a place to exchange knowledge, bridge science and policy, and collaborate across borders.
Being a part of the SCBNA Circle is a great way to reconnect with SCB friends, share your expertise with new Society leaders and grow our collective impact.
We hope you will join the circle to ensure that future conservation leaders have a Society they can rely on. SCBNA members can join the Circle with an annual donation of $1000 or more; for any questions, please reach out to Adina Merenlender - SCB Past President - at adinam@berkeley.edu or send an email to mail@scbnorthamerica.org.
A big thank you to the inaugural Circle members for their advice and support: Adina Merenlender, Mark Schwartz, Mark Boyce, Deborah Jensen, Tom Sisk, Claire Kremen, and Paul Beier.
Why start a friends circle? Conservation scientists and practitioners in the U.S. need to be able to draw strength from a community that cares about them, especially now more than ever. SCBNA is ready - and able - to provide that support to our community, but needs to have the right resources - financial, expertise, and leadership-wise - in order to do so.
The last few years have featured an important period of growth for SCBNA and our North American Region, while also seeing a restructuring of our global Society network. This new network structure requires SCBNA to be a healthy non-profit to meet important Regional priorities, and to continue to provide innovative programming under our Policy, Education, Student Affairs, Chapters, and EID Committees.
Making an Impact: SCB North America is the premier scientific association serving our Region's community of conservation leaders. We provide continuing education and professional development support for 1200+ members a year, including opportunities to engage in advocacy efforts on behalf of current conservation issues. In our 15+ years advancing the science and practice of conservation biology in North America, we have led efforts to safeguard environmental regulations in the U.S. and Canada, advanced conversations on the importance of scientific assessments and state-level conservation efforts, and advocated for a more inclusive community via equity, inclusion, and diversity work and our first-ever Conservation Education Forum. THANK YOU!
