    Dear SCB North America Members,

Please see the sign-on opportunity below from our colleagues at Defenders of Wildlife. Join their call on Congress to commit to preventing extinction and safeguarding the ESA!

    ---

Join this scientists' letter calling on Congress to commit to protecting species threatened with extinction by upholding the ESA and the science-based framework that underpins it. Together we call on our representatives to continue to uphold the Endangered Species Act and its original purpose: to prevent extinctions and ensure the recovery of at-risk species. If you are a scientist from any scientific discipline (e.g., ecology, medicine, economics, etc.), we invite you to join as a co-signatory on our letter. In doing so, your will be featured in the list of scientists who sign and accompany the final publication.

Scientific consensus is clear: species are disappearing faster than at any time in human history, and in the U.S. alone, thousands of species are imperiled. For over 50 years, the ESA has served as a bedrock environmental statute, grounded in scientific rigor and ecological understanding.

Yet, despite this clear track record, the ESA is under sustained attack. We are deeply concerned by the growing efforts to significantly weaken the law's effectiveness and undermine its scientific foundation. Numerous recent legislative, regulatory, and budgetary proposals would collectively, and in some instances individually, destroy the ESA's strong framework or deny particular imperiled species the protections needed to help ensure its continued existence.

Before signing, we ask that you read our short letter. When you sign, you indicate that you generally agree with our letter, thereby increasing its impact on decision-makers involved in the issue.

Thank you for your time and consideration!
