  • 1.  Seeking collaborators for IMCC8 Ocean Literacy Panel (#56)

    Posted 06-25-2026 01:05

    Dear SCB members,

I hope you are doing well.

I am pleased to share that my panel discussion titled "Ocean Literacy for Marine Conservation: Empowering Communities in the Western Indian Ocean" has been accepted for IMCC8 (Panel Discussion #56).

I am currently looking to strengthen the panel with additional speakers, particularly colleagues working in West Africa or the Western Indian Ocean region who are engaged in ocean literacy, marine conservation, community engagement, or related fields, and who may be interested in co-contributing to this discussion.

The aim of the panel is to explore practical approaches to empowering coastal communities through ocean literacy and collaborative conservation actions.

If you are attending IMCC8 or know someone who might be interested in contributing as a speaker or co-organizer, I would greatly appreciate your support and connection.

Please feel free to contact me directly:

Thank you very much for your time and support.

    Kind regards,
    Ivaldo de Jesus Fumo

    Dear Arthur,

Please accept my sincere apologies for the delayed response. I have been conducting fieldwork over the past two weeks in a remote area with heavy rainfall and very limited internet access, which unfortunately prevented me from replying sooner.

Thank you very much for your kind response and for sharing these valuable contacts. I really appreciate your support in helping to strengthen this discussion.

I will reach out to Dr. Jacquiline Uku, Dr. Judy Mann, and Sarah Ater to learn more about their work and to ask whether they are planning to attend IMCC8. Their experiences and contributions to ocean literacy in the Western Indian Ocean region sound highly relevant to the objectives of the panel.

Even if they are not attending the conference, I believe it would still be valuable to connect, exchange ideas, and explore possible collaborations around ocean literacy, community engagement, and marine conservation in the region.

Thank you again for your support and for helping connect people working towards stronger ocean stewardship in the Western Indian Ocean.

    Kind regards,

    Ivaldo de Jesus Fumo

    Dear Ivaldo,

Thank you for sharing this exciting opportunity, and congratulations on having your panel discussion accepted for IMCC8.

I am very interested in your panel topic. It closely aligns with my work on community-based seagrass conservation, environmental education, and strengthening local ocean stewardship in southwest Madagascar.

I would be delighted to contribute to this discussion if I have the opportunity to attend IMCC8. I believe that sharing experiences from Madagascar could provide valuable perspectives on engaging coastal communities in marine conservation through ocean literacy.

Thank you again for reaching out, and I hope we will have the opportunity to collaborate.
